15.11 The refetence in the Draft Conservation and Open Space Element refers to this land as a
scenic resource, i.e. enjoyed visually from a distance rather than physically. A sentence can
be added at the end of that paragraph which reads:
Most of this land is privately owned and is not accessible to the public.
15.12 The proposed General Plan distinguishes between open space in agricultural use and open
space open to the public by the Land Use designations placed on property. For example,
land in the western ridgelands is designated as Parks and Recreation (for parcels owned by
the East Bay Regional Park District and land in the City of Pleasanton's Augustin Bernal
Park) and Agriculture and Grazing (for privately owned parcels). Staff suggests adding the
following sentence to the end of the description of both the Agriculture and Grazing and
Public Health and Safety land use designation descriptions on p.2 -25 of the Land Use
Element of the proposed General Plan:
These areas are generally privately owned and public access is not allowed.
Throughout the section cited (pages 7 -36 through 7 -40), a distinction is made between the
three types of open space discussed, with public access discussed only in the Open Space
Parks and Recreation section.
15.13 Comment noted. This amendment to the second paragraph of the "Overview" section of
the Draft Community Character Element will be made as follows:
This gives Pleasanton a strong sense of individuality. Surrounding hillside and
both public and private open -space areas, along with...
15.14 Comment noted. The following addition is recommended to the last sentence in that
paragraph in the Draft Community Character Element:
The Southern Hills area, mostly in private ownership, provides a major visual
backdrop for South Pleasanton as well as for the entire city.
15.15 Good point. Staff recommends the following bullet point is added to the Section on
Sustainability in the Draft Community Character Element:
Higher density and mixed -use walkable neighborhoods near alternate forms of
transportation.
15.16 Comment noted. In the Draft Community Character Element in the Agriculture section, the
following addition is recommended before the last sentence in the fast paragraph as follows:
The S.otomo fat has activel ranched its land for over 140 ears.
15.17 Comment noted. In the Draft Community Character Element, the last sentence in the
Agricultural section is amended as follows:
All of these agricultural properties contribute to the visual sense of an open area
surrounding Pleasanton.
final response to comments with throw pages 61
