Janice Stem
City of Pleasanton
P .gc 3
R 8.5 4 I.) The Plan refers to Shadow ('lift's as a water supply
lake. but it would be more accurate to list Lake del
Valle instead-
2.) Again, listing "active" recreation as defined in the
foot and analogizing the reference to the Chain of
Lakes recreation to that of Shadow Cliffs, is 19.11
potentially misleading to the reader, To protect the
water quality of these crucial water supply lakes, it is
highly unlikely that the same active recreation that
goes on at Shadow Cliffs would be considered for the
hikes nearest to the heart of Pleasanton,., i.e., Lakes II,
1, and Cope, Consider adding language here that talks
about coordinating recreational opportunities with
Zone 7's COLs Master Plan when it gets underway
(probably staving about 2012 or 2013).
R Fig 8 -3 Legend lists the "proposed Chain of Lakes -..but only the
eastern portion of the lakes are shown. "Existing Surface
Water" needs to note that the lakes north of Stanley Blvd 19'12
(excluding Shadow Cliffs} are also pan of the COLS.
R 8 -22 3 'there is a reference here to the County establishing four lakes!
Which four lakes? Zone 7 currently owns two lakes (Lake 1
and Cope) and will receive a third (Lake H) around 2014, 19.13
There are two additional lakes (Lake G and F) that have been
mined, but may not be available for use by Inne 7 until 2030.
This may be the gist of what is being said, but the way it is
stated is confusing.
Fig R -8 The purple line showing flood protectinn improvements in the T
COLS area should include Cope Lake. 1 19.14
8 8 -32 i Prg 9.3 I lore and in other locations throughout, the document lists
sediment diversion or detention as a use for the Chain of
Lakes. This is not one of the prinuuy uses for the Chain of
Lakes, hut instead is an unavoidable consequence of accepting 19.15
flood waters during higher flow events. Zone 7 will examine
other ways to prevent sediment from being trapped in the
lakes, so the characterization of the Chain of Lakes for
sediment detention is not appropriate- Please change all
references.
l he following Comments in the table below refer to the General Plan Update's Draft EIR.
2 2 First Again. it appears that a title of `Water Management, 1labitat,
hul let and Recreation" would lit the description of the uses for this
land better. Would like to see a reference to coordinating with
Zone Ts future Chain of Lakes Master Plan.
