118
Councilman Abrott: "There is a definite need for man who .would be a full time employee
of the City to coordinate the work of the Council. The City is growing and there is
enough work to warrant such a position".
Councilman Hansen: "The job should be created for the following reasons:
1. There is no supervision of any of our Departments as the Councilmen are out of town
most of the time. o
2. Help in the City Hall is needed in the Water Department and with different corres-
pondence that comes for the City.
3. Subdivisions are coming in so fast we need extra supervision in the field.
4. In case of illness o'r lay -off in any department, this man would be able to step in.
5. He would be able to keep the Council better posted.
6. There would be closer contact between the Council, Engineer and City Attorney."
Mr. Hansen suggested Mr. Al Oxsen for the proposed position, to assume the title of
Director of Public Works, and have supervision over all departments and to do what work
is necessary in the City Hall in assisting the Clerk and Council.
Councilman Abrott suggested that a minimum salary of $350.00 be paid. At the present
time the City Clerk is receiving $100.00 per month, whereas in the past the office paid
$350.00, and due to the increased work in connection with the Town's activities, this
amount would seem not exorbitant,
Mayor Trimingham suggested a higher salary, perhaps $450.00, be paid, as the position
would entail acting as purchasing agent, the keeping of inventories, reading of meters
and other activities,
Councilman Cairo spoke in favor of creating the position, but felt that a man with a
degree in business administration and engineering should be employed.,.
COUNCILMAN ABROTT moved that a Director of Public Works be appointed, to handle.all
necessary office work in the City Hall and to do any outside work•at the pleasure of the
Council at a maximum salary of $400.00 per month for a 44 hour week; motion seconded by
Councilman Hansen, Ayes: Hewitson, Hansen, Cairo, Abrott and Trimingham.
It was moved by Councilman Hansen, seconded by Councilma t Abrott, that Mr. Al Oxsen be
offered the position of Director of Public Works. Ayes:. Hewitson, Hansen, Abrott and
Trimingham. Noes: Councilman Cairo.
Mr. Whiting complimented the Council on their action.
Mr. Victor Lund had been present during the meeting and spoke favorably of the Council's
decision.
Councilman Cairo stated that, while he had been in favor of seeking other.applicants for
the position, he would cooperate fully with Mr. Oxsen in the event he accepted the
position.
CLAIMS: Totaling $2,827,72 were referred to the Finance Committee for approval:
Claim No.
Res. 2208
2208
n 220$
2208
349
350
351 Central Equip.
