222
ACTION ON COMMUNICATIONS:
Mr. Oxsen was asked to write to Reverend Calavan, of the St. John's Episcopal Church
in Oakland, stating the scheduling of the Centennial parade is in the hands of the
Alameda County Centennial Commission; therefore, it would be impossible for the Mayor
to schedule the Parade at a different time.
On motion of Councilman Hewitson, seconded by Councilman Hansen, and approved_by all
Councilmen present, the Clerk was instructed to pay $300.00 to the Alameda County
Agricultural Fair Association for street decorations for the Fair.
The Council reviewed the map of the Jensen Tract 1284 enclosed with the letter from
the County Planning Commission and decided upon the following recommendations: (1)
Width of streets within the tract to be 36 feet curb to curb, 5 foot sidewalks,
leaving lb foot for installation of gas line. (2) The street entering Kaiser property
on the map should be deleted. (3) All lots 1 to 20 in flock 1 should be increased 6'
in depth, by decreasing the depth of lots in block 2 by 3' each. This will assure
a minimum of 6,Q)0 sq. ft. for all lots in block 1. (4) Sewer easement should be 10 feet
instead of 5 feet as shown on map. (5) All sewer and water pipes should be cast iron.
(6) Cairo Street (south of block 7) to be 40' curb to curb and 54' property line to
property line. These recommendations are to be added to the list previously sent to
the Planning Commission.
The Council discussed the matter of changing the name of McKinley Park to Kottinger
Park, as per the request of the Native -Sons. As there has been some opposition to
this change, even among the members of the Native Sons, Mr. Oxsen was asked to advise
them that the Council felt they should hold an election among their members before
the Council approved their request.
Recess was called.
The meeting was again called to order.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
PUBLIC UTILITIES:
Mr. Oxsen presented an estimate from Mr. Earl Trimingham for cost of painting Pump
House, roof, and proposed addition. Mr. Trimingham's price for two coats of paint
was $250.00; however, that did not include cleaning the building prior to painting.
The Council felt there was little difference in the price of painting and stuccoing;
therefore, they authorized Mr. Oxsen to advise Mr. A. Avilla to build the room and
Mr. Al. Uomini to stucco the building.
Councilman Abrott, reported that the contents pf the Pump House are not included in
the fire insurance policy. Mr. Oxsen was requested to speak to Mr. Ernest Schween
about including the contents in the new policy he is writing and also to obtain Mr.
Schween's recommendations for fire proofing the building.
Mr. Oxsen reported that the pipe for the Stahlnecker easement has been received and
also the 6" meter for use at the Pump House.
Councilman Abrott stated that the Council should consider securing more land for
effluent fields; however, this would not be necessary for a couple of years when the
proposed sub divisions are occupied.
Mr. Oxsen was requested to have a master meter installed at the Sewer Farm that
would register the water to the Sunol Road water users.
Councilman Abrott stated he had been informed that the Civil Defense Bureau will
pay half the cost of a New Class A Fire Tbuck. This information will be given to
Fire Chief Amaral for him to check further on it.
STREETS AND BUILDINGS:
The Council discussed a new plan for fixing the curb on the east side of the 600
block on Main Street in order to permit parallel parking. The plan is to install
a pipe where the lower curb is now for drainage and raise that side of the street
sufficiently to cover the pipe. The Council felt that although this method would be
more expensive that the others, it would be the best solution and instructed Mr.
Oxsen to have Engineer Goodridge work out the plans.
Mayor Trimingham reported that Mr. Duke Bonds had cantaetedd him asking the Town's
assistance in getting Abbie and Angela Streets extended to his property in order
that he may sub divide. Mr. Bonde will be informed that the Council will do what
they can, but first he must present tentative sub division maps. Mr. Bonde was also
