On
motion of Councilman Brenner, seconded by Councilman Oxsen and approved
by all Councilmen, the resignation of Alfred Avilla was accepted as sub-
mitted. All other communications were filed.
MR. WM. LILJEVAL requested information as to any possible benefit the
Alisal district might receive from the proposed merger of the Towri and
Water District water distribution systems. He was informed by the Mayor
and by the Clerk that the proposed consolidation had no bearing on any
supply to the Alisal District.
AT THE REQUEST of C. J. Ritenour and John J. Amaral, and on motion of
Councilman Hansen, seconded by Councilman Oxsen and approved by all
Councilmen, it was ordered that the sum of $300 be appropriated to the
Chamber of Commerce for publicity during the year 1950.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
POLICE AND JUDICIARY: Councilman Brenner reported that police officer
Amaro had fallen and injured his leg at ,the pump house and would be off
duty for another 2 weeks or so. He also recommended that applications
be requested for a replacement for Officer Avilla.
STREETS AND BLDGS.: Councilman Hansenreported that sidewalks had been
repaired at the Glaser and Passeggi properties on Main Street, and that
information was being secured as to trees -for planting in front of the
Rose Hotel. Councilman Hansen was authorized to handle a request from
Frank Nevis to remove and replace 2 trees at the Cozy Corner.
CITY HALL AND FIRE DEPT.: Councilman Oxsen advised that the Fire Ho roof
should be replaced and that he had one bid from the McFarland Roofing Co.
He was authorized to get additional bids and to handle the matter. OF STREETS MEDEIROS requested information as to whether or not the
Council contemplated parallel parking on Main Street, in order that he
might know how to paint the parking strips. Mayor Trimingham advised him
that the matter was under consideration and requested that Mr. Ritenour
secure an opinion from the Chamber of Commerce as to their thoughts on
parallel parking.
CITY ATTORNEY NILSON stated the current engineering survey of the Water
District system was the logical first step leading toward the consolidation
of the two water systems, but the City Council should be cognizant of all
their rights under present agreements before any further action is taken.
MAYOR TRIMINGHAM stated that the peddlers ordinance was causing consider-
able disturbance and requested advice from the-City Attorney as to what
should be done. City Attorney Nilson advised that most of the peddlers
claimed immunity as being engaged in interstate commerce and that the
Chief of Police had been advised -as how to proceed in cases that did not
actually come under interstate commerce regulation.
