Councilman Rivolta reported that he had consulted with loses Compagna regard-
ing the improvement and that Mr. Compagna was "Willing to building the brick chimney with
terra cotta flue line 7 inches in diameter, labor and material to be included for $51.50
and without the flue line of terra cotta the job would be $36.00." It was decided that
it would be best to have the terra cotta flue line installed and accordingly Councilman
Rivolta was instructed to have Mr. Compagna proceed with the work at the price of $51.50.
Karl Bieler appeared before the Count+;il and reported that on Saturday night,
September 17th that he was planning to open his new establishment in the Antonini Building,
that he would like permission to have free dancing and queried the Council whether there
would be any objection. Mayor Orloff stated that he could see no objection as long as
the party was orderly and also that Mr. Bieler should cease the music at 1 o'clock and
close his party promptly at 2 o'clock. He was very willing to do this and since there were
no objections from the Councilmen present permission was granted him to hold free dancing
at his establishment.
'The matter of the municipality being concerned -in the expenses of the local branch
of the Alameda County Library after January 1st as regards librarian salary and janitor
salary, was given consideration by the Councilmen. The mayor again expressed
himself as being "favorable to the matter being presented before the Board of Supervisors
and also that in advance of appearing before the Board that he felt that the matter be
given consideration by the Woman'-s Improvement Club of Pleasanton, who were responsible
for the first library being established in Pleasanton. After some discussion with the
Clerk on the advisability of whether the matter should be presented in writing or in
person, the Clerk was directed to appear before the Club at its next regular meeting on
TuesdAy, September 27th and at that time discuss the matter with the club members in an
effort to procure their help in the project of having the County assist in maintaining
the branch.
There being no further business the meeting
regular session Monday evening, October 3d at the
Rpprov ed:
yor
adjourned at 8 :45 o'clock to meet in
usual hour.
Clerk
Pleasanton, California, September 21st, 1938.
The Town Council of the Town of Pleasanton was called to order on the above written
date by Mayor Thos. Marys Street between the Western Pacific crossing andMain'Streetq
Engineer Mancini then discussed with the Councilmen a project statement which he had
submitted on September 19th to the State Department of PublicWorks with reference to the
extension.. He advised that he had received an-:informal approval from the State on the
work and an assurance that further funds would be available from gas tax moneys to assist
with the work. He further advised that the entire project of improving Division and St.
Marys Street would necessitate an expenditure of some $8500.00 of which $7300.00 was on
/hand.
He submitted to the Council a sketch of the work to be done after which a discussion
on water main connections, pipes and electric conduits, etc. followed. It was established
that certain work in connection with the replacing,--!of electric wires etc. would be the
responsibility of the contractor, but with the placing of water mains at a new lower
level would be the work of the municipality and accordingly the town. would have to bear
that expense.
