need of a new fire hydrant on Abbie Street, which had been recommended and Mr..Lethain furthered
the remarks made by r1ouncilman Rivolta and same was approved and ordered installed by the
Water Department. Councilman Rivolta then took up the matter of the fire hose and its purchase.
He stated his position in the matter and how he felt with regards to the hose on hand from
the American Rubber Company and which had not been returned. He brought out that he felt
that this hose should be retained and that in the future no hose be ordered without the full
approval of the Council. Councilman Madsen stated his disapproval very emphatically. Council-
man Trimingham was of the opinion that Councilman Rivolta's suggestion should be followed:
Some discussion ensued following which Councilman Rivolta made the motion to the affect that
200 feet of the hose now on hand and which had not -, been returned should be retained and the
other '200 feet returned to the American Rubber Company without delay. His motion was seconded
by Councilman Brenner and received the apl=val .of Councilman Trimingham and Mayor Orloff.
Councilman Madsen voted "No" on the motion, being opposed to buying hose that had been stored
at the fire department since the last order of hose was bought because it was kept under
the condition that 'it was and because the instructions of the Council to return the hose
had not been followed. He stated further that in the.matter of purchases for the fire
department or any other department, that the regular proceedure should be followed. The matter
closed with Fire Chief Letham understanding that the 200 feet of hose -was to be returned with-
out delay.
