EXHIBIT E
HORTICULTURE I ARBORICULTURE I URBAN FORESTRY
. ,(\:-\1
September 7 2011 /
p ,
Mr. Dave Cunningham H O R T SCIENCE/
2463 Pomino Way
Pleasanton CA 94566 .
Subject: 205 Neal Street
Dear Mr. Cunningham:
You are planning to re-model the home at the subject property in Pleasanton CA. The
canopy of an oak tree located on an adjacent property (4512 2nd Street) extends into your
property. The City of Pleasanton requested that an arborist assess the impact of the
proposed re-model on the health and structural condition of the tree. You asked that I
prepare such an assessment. We met at the site yesterday. This letter summarizes my
observations and assessment.
Description of the Tree
The valley oak (Quercus • 1 xir.•
lobata)was located in the w t ", ' :. `Yy {•
rear yard of the property at ',?ti, ".
'" ^ .•`
4512 2nd Street(Photo 1). 4 •-' .;,
The trunk was approximately . 4
19' from the property line with • a
• `f ` A I+
a garage between them. Note ~
the garage located between ' '_. ,,.,,. ` °
tree and your property. ,. , ti. .f >
Mr! ,fir-.. -..-
The main trunk appeared to divide two times, resulting in 3 main stems. I estimated them
to be 16" in diameter. The three stems divided further creating a narrow canopy of
branches. The canopy on the west and north appeared to have been pruned, leaving the
tree somewhat asymmetric in form. The crown was bowed slightly to the southeast,
towards your property. Small branches and twigs high in the canopy extended over the
property line and approximately 4' into your yard.
Overall tree health was good. The tree appeared to be vigorous. Because I could not
examine the tree other than from the sidewalk, I cannot comment on its structural
condition.
The City of Pleasanton defines a Heritage tree as one with a trunk diameter of 18"or
greater or a height in excess of 35'. The valley oak met the criteria for Heritage status.
HortScience,Inc. I 325 Ray Street I Pleasanton,CA 94566
phone 925.484.0211 I fax 925.484.5096 I www.hortscience.com
