Steven Bocian
From: Sean <fz1932 @comcast.net>
Sent Thursday, January 15, 2015 6:08 PM
To: Steven Bocian
Subject: RE: Synthetic Turf selection considerations - RE: RFP Bernal Community Park, Phase II
Appreciate the quick response.
City governments are making prudent decisions to pass over RFP responses that incorporate ANY product coming in
contact with children's skin (or lungs)that require display of a Prop 65 Warning Label or any potential health risk for that
matter. (i.e CA Prop 65 law relating to Crystalline Silica). I would imagine many sports park entrances are now required
to display Prop 65 warning on their artificial fields.
In my experience, sales reps for manufacturer, distributor or installation contractor have a single goal in mind, sell
product and provide only facts that support his or her goals and objectives. With that said, if a more expensive field
product eliminates 100%of the risk and requires no warning label or defense by sales rep, then you have found a
product we can all stand behind. Found one candidate with a quick google search. No endorsement, just informational.
Not sure how old you are...but I'm old, and was once told that brake dust was no big deal, lead paint was only a problem
if swallowed, chewing tobacco and a few cigarettes a week has no health impact...funny how those stories worked out.
Pleasanton is a safe place to raise kids and I'd like to keep it that way.Thank you for your consideration on this matter.
Sean
From: Steven Bocian [mailto:SBocianCalci tyofpleasantonca.gov]
Sent: Thursday, January 15, 2015 2:53 PM
To: 'Sean'
Subject: RE: Synthetic Turf selection considerations - RE: RFP Bernal Community Park, Phase II
Thank you for your email. The City has issued its RFP for the purchase and installation of the three synthetic turf fields
for the Bernal Community Park, Phase II and it includes an option for vendors to submit a proposal that eliminates or
minimizes the use of crumb rubber. Once the bids are received, we'll evaluate these options, as well as the base
submittal which does include crumb rubber, and develop a recommendation. Thanks for your interest in this matter.
Steven/BocCa'v
Assistant City Manager
123 Main Street
Pleasanton, CA 94566-0802
(925) 931-5002
sbocian @citvofpleasantonca gov
From: Sean (mailto:fz1932©comcast.net]
Sent: Thursday, January 15, 2015 11:22 AM
To: Steven Bocian
Cc: PTown Weekly #2
Subject: RE: Synthetic Turf selection considerations - RE: RFP Bernal Community Park, Phase II
1
