I had already written my notes before the
meeting and so I am including them here for your team's reference. I appreciate all the work that has
gone into this project. It's very impressive!
Regards,
Todd Nelson
Overall Impression
I think this is a fantastic plan! It is very imaginative and has some bold ideas. It is obvious how much care
went in to integrating themes and projects from other plans, including the Pedestrian & Bicycle Master
Plan. There are only a few areas where I'd like adjustments. Forgive the length of my explanations;the
actual suggestions are separated below in bold text.
Vision for 2040
I love the idea of imagining Pleasanton in the future and proactively making plans to guide it to its best
possible outcome. I did some searching for predictions for the year 2040:
powe red-cars-in-ca lifornia-by-2040/
• "Beyond Traffic 2045" USDOT^'2015
• https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/07/climate/ipcc-climate-report-2040.html
• http://knowledge.wharton.upenn.edu/article/climate-change-report-ipcc/
• https://www.sidewalklabs.com/blog/a-vision-of-city-transportation-circa-2043/
A transportation picture emerges of reduced personal car ownership and increased use of things like
Uber, and when you do drive, increasingly it will be in an electric vehicle.Technology will play an
important part. Digital connectivity will change how and, more importantly, where people work. These
sorts of things are mentioned but not apparently significant influences on the plan.
• MP-P.51 I think more could be done, but drop-off zones for carpools, Uber, etc. are great.
• MP-l.3 "Continue to evaluate new technologies..."this is great thing but worded such that it isn't
a mandate.
• PF-P.3 Will "smart city" projects include a mobile app to locate available parking spots?
(https://www.streetline.com/full disclosure, I know of this company because they buy products
from my employer)
2
