Consider Recommendation to Allocate Community Grant Funds in the Youth
Category for Fiscal Year 2019/20
Chairperson Inman advised that the Commission would be considering eight (8) funding
applications that had been received under the Community Grants Program in the Youth
Category and would be first receiving presentations from agencies that had not requested
funding in the past.
Meeting opened for presentation from new applicants.
Go Green Initiative — Go Green Initiative Internship Program — Commissioners were advised that
Go Green Initiative has been operating in Pleasanton since 2002 working with the Pleasanton
Unified School District and had never thought about applying for funding through the Community
Grants Program in the Youth Category. They were informed that Go Green Initiative has offered
summer internships to high school and college students from Pleasanton that have shown
interest in fields that involve the environment and funding requested would be used to help
provide internships with a small salary.
Commissioner Chew requested confirmation that interns would be paid and questioned how
many interns Go Green expected they would be able to hire if full funding was allocated. She
was advised that funding would allow for four full-time internships. Commissioner Franklin was
advised that interns were hired at minimum wage for a total of 10-weems.
Commissioner Shotland was informed that applications for internships would be made available
through both the city of Pleasanton and the Pleasanton Unified School District.
Meeting closed for presentation from new applicant.
Youth Commission Minutes
March 13, 2019
Page 1
