ITEM 4: PUBLIC COMMEI
Page 1
The staff report emphasizes the affordable housing that Pleasanton has already built for special need groups
such as the elderly and the disabled. The report characterizes, in some detail, the commuting corporate and
essential workforce as something that just happens naturally to any city with jobs. They site traffic congestion
as the only negative impact. The question for the Housing Commission is this: Do you agree? Do you think
HCD will agree that Pleasanton's responsibility for housing applies only to our current residents? The staff
report cites the official Housing Element purpose for the State as "attaining decent housing and a suitable
living environment for every California family". Taking care of Pleasanton's vulnerable residents certainly
counts, but is that the end of the City's responsibility?
Certainly, there are costs associated with programs that would allow Pleasanton to provide housing
opportunities for currently commuting essential workers and lower paid corporate employees. These are
investments in the future economic vitality of Pleasanton as we enter an era where low carbon production
and lifestyles will have a financial advantage over those that result in greater GHG emissions. Please explore
all the investment opportunities.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
13 u k, D
Pleasanton CA
Item 4 - Provided to Housing Commission for the September 16, 2021 Meeting
AFTER PACKET DISTRIBUTION 8
