PLEASANTON
-ITEM 4: PUBLIC COMMENTS HOUSING ELEMENT UPDATE
and short-term rentals like AirBnB are likely to fall in this category'. The Census Bureau classifies
units as "other vacant' if they are vacant due to foreclosure, personal/family reasons, legal
proceedings, repairs/renovations, abandonment, preparation for being rented or sold, or vacant
for an extended absence for reasons such as a work assignment, military duty, or incarceration.
In a region with a thriving economy and housing market like the Bay Area, units being
renovated/repaired and prepared for rental or sale are likely to represent a large portion of the
"other vacant' category. Additionally, the need for seismic retrofitting in older housing stock could
also influence the proportion of "other vacant' units in some jurisdictions. The largest share of
vacancies in Pleasanton is due to "other vacant' reasons, similar to that of Alameda County and
the Bay area.
Figure A-33: Vacant Units by Type
Notes:
Universe: Vacant housing units
Source: ABAG 2021 Pre -certified Housing Needs Data (U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 5 -Year
Data (2015-2019), Table 825004)
Seasonal/Recreational vacancies seem high for
Pleasanton since we don't allow Air BnB etc.
7 The City does not permit short-term rentals of less than 30 days in residential districts.
A-40 I City of Pleasanton
Housing Needs Assessment
Item 4 - Provided to Housing Commission for the September 16, 2021 Meeting
AFTER PACKET DISTRIBUTION 22
100.0%
N90.Ok
-
---------- --------------------®
- -----
D
80.0%
--------- ____________________
---------------------
----------
tm
E70.0%
V)
--------- ____________________
.-__...___----------
----------
o
60.0%
___-_.-_-_. . .. ___..__
_________-
S
50.0%
---------------------
------ ----------------
u
j40.0%
------ ------------------
----------
30.0%
---------
-------
20.0%
20.0%
--------
----- -----
---- ------ ---------------------
-10.0°k-------..-
10.0%---------
— --------------
— - ----------
0.0
Pleasanton
Alameda County
Bay Area
■ For Rent
- For Sale
■ For Seasonal, Recreational, Or Occasional Use Other Vacant
■ Rented, Not Occupied
• Sold, Not Occupied
Notes:
Universe: Vacant housing units
Source: ABAG 2021 Pre -certified Housing Needs Data (U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 5 -Year
Data (2015-2019), Table 825004)
Seasonal/Recreational vacancies seem high for
Pleasanton since we don't allow Air BnB etc.
7 The City does not permit short-term rentals of less than 30 days in residential districts.
A-40 I City of Pleasanton
Housing Needs Assessment
Item 4 - Provided to Housing Commission for the September 16, 2021 Meeting
AFTER PACKET DISTRIBUTION 22
