Pleasanton Police Department <br />Military Equipment Inventory <br />Equipment Name: Defense Technology 37mm CS Liquid Barricade Penetrating Ferret (Model 1162) <br />Quantity Owned/Sought: Up to 300 owned I Lifespan: Approximately 5 years <br />Equipment Capabilities: Delivers 8 grams of CS gas and can be launched from 50 yards away. <br />Manufacturer Product Description: The Ferret 37mm CS round is a frangible projectile filled with <br />chemical agent. Upon impacting the barrier, the nose cone ruptures and instantaneously delivers the <br />.16 oz. agent payload inside a structure. These munitions are 4.8" by 1.5" and travels at 650fps within <br />an effective range of 50 yards. <br />Purpose/Authorized Uses: To deploy chemical agents to encourage a suspect to surrender or <br />disperse. <br />Fiscal Impacts: The devices cost $25 each. <br />Legal/Procedural Rules Governing Use: All use of force applications are governed by state <br />law(including Penal Code section 13652) and Pleasanton PD Policy Sections 300 and 308. All chemical <br />agent deployments except handheld pepper spray and FN 303 deployments require a chemical agents <br />plan approved by a commander. Only trained members of the SWAT Team may deploy chemical <br />agents. <br />Training Required: Only officers who have received training on this device from a certified chemical <br />agents instructor are authorized to use it. <br />Other Notes: None. <br />21 <br />
