XSA, oma City Council Meeting - Submit
Submitted On:
your written public comment Jun 6, 2023, 10:27AM PDT
City of Pleasanton
Q.:
P .Y YEn P
Full Name First Name: Vicki
Last Name: LaBarge
Email (this entry is disclosable vlabarge@as legal.com
if included)
City Council Meeting Date June 06, 2023
Agenda Item Number Agenda Consent item 11
Comments Dear Mayor, Vice Mayor, Council Members, City Manager and Staff,
Once again I am appealing to you to please listen to dissenting
voices on the amounts budgeted for the skate park and century
house.
I have attached a link to a YouTube video of the Val Vista skate park
to show you that it's a great skate park and unfortunately not heavily
used. Should we really spend 6.4 million on a different skate park?
Is that being fiscally responsible when we have other pressing
issues? (If the link cannot be accessed you can search YouTube for
Val Vista skate park.)
https://youtu.be/K4D88GRqc4O
As far as century house goes, has the city considered selling the
historic house and property to an investor that will refurbish it and
turn it into a fabulous venue? If that is out of the question, and not
sure why it would be, but nevertheless, perhaps just fix the roof
which would be much less than 4 million.
Have each of you really questioned whether the spend on the two
projects is truly necessary at this time? Hit the pause button like
what what was done with the planning for wayside park, which by the
way, thousands of residents were in support of, yet the council
paused that project.
There are undoubtedly other projects that should be reviewed for
their necessity at this time. Focus has to be on clean water and
ensuring we have a fully staffed police department.
15% of our police staff left for other cities, this is from your own
statement. V\Ln have 20% vacancies right now, again per your own
statement. 6% of those are unfilled positions. At a time when we are
seeing increased crime this has to be a priority in making sure we
can attract and retain police officers and that means making sure
their wages are in line with surrounding similar cities. Think of how
