NSA Npo City Council Meeting - Submit
Submitted On:
r
your written public comment Jun 6, 2023, 11:15AM PDT
ACity of Pleasanton
A\\tn PPO4
Full Name First Name: Shareef
Last Name: Mandavi
Email (this entry is disclosable smandavi@comcast.net
if included)
City Council Meeting Date June 06, 2023
Agenda Item Number 11
Comments To the city council:
The budget process is one that requires prioritization and what I
understand is that a new skate park and the Century House
renovation are considered high priorities. These two projects are
nice amenities.
However, amenities do not take priority over public safety. The
negotiation with our police department needs to come first. What
they are asking for is mid-range compared to the other cities used
as benchmarks.
The prudent course would be to delay the skate park for 6 months
and allow time to complete the police budget negotiation. This will
give our city an advantage in terms of hiring and retention,
something we want right now when it is difficult to recruit and train
police officers.
Also let's please slow down the Century House renovation. Exterior
work to prevent further damage is warranted. Interior work can wait.
Let's get the mid year economic update before we spend money
there.
Amenities are "wants" while public safety is a "need" that should
take highest priority.
Amenities are nice to have. But they won't matter if people don't feel
safe using them!
Thank you,
Shareef and Renee Mandavi
Pleasanton residents since 1993
