The City currently
has seven commissions and three committees, with Council-appointed representatives on
each. To better align with the City’s organizational structure, streamline opportunities for
community input and engagement, and increase efficiency for the commission and committee
members as well as supporting staff members, in February 2023 the City Council voted to
create an ad-hoc subcommittee (Arkin, Balch) to discuss commission and committee
restructure and bring recommendations forward for consideration.

The City Council reviewed an initial set of recommendations from the Council ad-hoc
subcommittee on October 17, 2023, and voted to refer the reorganization of the Civic Arts,
Human Services, Library, and Parks and Recreation Commissions back to the ad-hoc
subcommittee for further review. The ad-hoc subcommittee has recommended two options for
City Council discussion.

RECOMMENDATION
Review and provide direction on the Council ad-hoc subcommittee recommendations
regarding the reorganization of the Civic Arts, Human Services, Library, and Parks and
Recreation Commissions.

BACKGROUND
Current Structure
Commissions are codified in the City' s municipal code and provide policy input on a broad
range of topics within a specific area of expertise and focus.
