4
•How many people attended each workshop and the webinar.
•How many properties the attendees represented. (The correspondence might not be 1 to
1; multiple generations representing the same property might attend.)
•A follow-up survey of attendees will ask how useful the workshops were: what
information was most helpful for their understanding of how conservation easements
work and how an easement could serve both their financial interest and their desire to
conserve their land in perpetuity; what kind of information was lacking; and whether
the presentations led them to seriously consider selling a permanent easement on their
property.
•Finally, if the workshops lead to any follow-up discussions with ranchers or site visits
to evaluate a property, this will be reported as well. We would note, however, that
because the workshops will take place fairly late in the year, January 2025 might be too
soon to show real results. For this reason, we will make annual reports to the
Committee about the success in generating interest in permanent conservation
easements among Alameda County ranchers. We will also report on the status of the
revolving fund. This information will help the Committee gauge whether workshops in
future years are worth investing in.
Thank you for considering this proposal for an Outreach Program for Alameda County ranchers
about conserving their land with permanent conservation easements.
Dick Schneider
ACRCD Board member
richs59354@aol.com
Ian Howell
ACRCD Resource Conservationist
ian.howell@acrcd.org
Robin Hanson
California Rangeland Trust Programs Manager
rhanson@rangelandtrust.org
