P a g e | 24 A P P E N D I X B
Develop a master plan for a pilot food production “community garden” project as a tool to
educate the public on how to garden and grow their own food. Master Plan should identify
areas of unused park land available for use as community gardens.

Develop Sustainable Park Design Guidelines for new construction projects. Guidelines should be
developed such that they are comprehensive, sustainable and maintainable. Consideration
should be given to ground water recharge, alternative energy sources, composting or low flow
restrooms, low-water use landscaping, and use of recycled materials. Guidelines should include
a “checklist” as a part of the design plan review process for new construction projects.
Development of a sustainable landscape ordinance is already underway within the City of
Pleasanton.

While a new Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program was just approved the city should
continue to evaluate and modify the existing policy to focus on opportunities to reduce use of
pesticides, alternatives to pesticide use, and continually investigate new products or solutions.

Evaluate opportunities to utilize recycled water for landscape irrigation.
