Describe how this project is cost effective and whether the budget is reasonable for the
anticipated result. If this project does not receive funding, what will be the effect on this
project?
The Black Excellence Program is a cost effective, equitable use of funds. Beyond the fact
that Pleasanton USD is offering use of its facilities and supporting the program through
extant staff, a year-long partnership between a local non-profit and PUSD to support Black
students is an innovative and culturally relevant way to address educational disparities that
affect Pleasanton children and their families. These are our children, and they don’t always
feel supported by the Pleasanton community as a whole. The Black Excellence Program
gives them a space to feel seen, heard, and unequivocally embraced by the adults around
them. We are bringing community members who embody "black excellence" to the students
and families, meeting them where they are. Typically, families and students in Pleasanton
have to go seek this expertise outside of their school and outside of the city. We are making
possibilities real for our families and communities by making these subject matter experts
accessible right here.
$7500 to $15000 is a reasonable sum to spend on facilitating the creation of a community
of families that will support each other while raising their children in the City of Pleasanton.
If this grant is not approved, PUSD will not have the budget to be able to continue this
program in the 2024-2025 school year, and we will not be able to implement it for
Pleasanton children.
If your agency received funding from the City of Pleasanton in the past five years, please
include project name, funding level and the year funding was received (enter N/A if not
applicable).
N/A
New Applicants only: Did you watch the Community Grant Application Workshop Video?
Yes
No
Please indicate your City of Pleasanton Business License No.
1022685
Please confirm that you have uploaded the following in the “Documents”
tab:
Current annual budget for the entire agency, including revenue
Agency organization chart
