I have lived in Pleasanton for 16 years and have
grown up going to the Pleasanton Public Library in the evenings and
mornings. I am here to express my strong opposition to closing the
library two days a week and reducing library collections by 50%.
The library has proven to be an essential resource for many of the
high schoolers I know and myself. The library not only serves as a
valuable study spot for many of us, but also a place to connect with
our peers. I have met many of my closest friends spending evenings
at the library. The library's hours and resources also allow us to
work on group projects, study for tests, work on homework and
extracurriculars, socialize, and read books. I am very grateful for our
library and our librarians for providing us with these resources.
I also grew up participating in the library's summer reading
programs and spending weekends there reading. Reducing library
access would limit learning opportunities for kids in our community.
On behalf of the many high schoolers who utilize the library's
resources, I urge you to maintain the library's current hours and
collections. Thank you.
