that has prided itself on being forward -thinking and environmentally
conscious. Most of you ran on platforms that emphasized
Pleasanton's environmental values—this move would contradict
those commitments.
Second, the closure of the Dolores Bengtson Aquatic Center would
be a heartbreaking loss for families like mine. My son has been a
swimmer with the Pleasanton Seahawks for over five years. This
facility is not just a pool—it's a community hub, a training ground for
a world-class swim team, and a generator of economic activity
during swim meets. These events bring hundreds of families to
Pleasanton, directly supporting local hotels, restaurants, and small
businesses.
With leadership and initiative, the aquatic center has the potential to
be a self-sustaining, even revenue -generating, asset. There is a
wide range of untapped fundraising, sponsorship, and grant
opportunities—but currently, no one in the city appears to be leading
those efforts. I would be more than willing to volunteer my time to
support any fundraising or strategic initiatives that could help
preserve both the aquatic center and our sustainability programs. I
believe many others in the community would step up as well.
Both of these cuts—eliminating the Sustainability Manager role and
closing the aquatic center—are short-term decisions with long-term
consequences. They threaten Pleasanton's identity as a family -
friendly, environmentally responsible, and community -centered city.
I urge you to reconsider. Let's find a better path forward that keeps
Pleasanton strong, sustainable, and connected. I'm here to help,
and I know I'm not alone.
Thank you for your time and for your service.
Sincerely,
Chiman Lee
Pleasanton Resident & Parent
leetec@gmail.com
Upload File(s) Public Comment - city council special meeting 04-08-2025 - Agenda
item 21 and 22 .docx
