DISCUSSION
Shape has a local presence with an office in Pleasanton and another in Stockton. With Shape,
parts can be sourced locally, troubleshooting and technical support are available on-site, pump
downtimes are minimized, and a rapid response can be made to pump failures. Shape has
worked with City staff for several years, and this relationship allows Shape to stock critical
parts and be readily available in the event of an emergency.

During routine preventive maintenance inspections, it was discovered that eight sewer pumps
will need to be rebuilt due to normal wear, which includes worn impellers, bad wear rings, and
oil in the stator housing, typically from the operation of the pumps. Staff recommends s three-
year term for the new agreement, through June 30, 2028, with a total not-to-exceed amount of
$225,000 over the three years, with the option to extend the term for two additional one-year
terms, not to exceed five years.

EQUITY AND SUSTAINABILITY
As a full-service city, the City provides a wide range of services and programs to meet the
needs of all members of the community. Additional resources, such as consultant support, are
necessary to sustain vital City services and programs and support community infrastructure.

OUTREACH
No outreach was conducted, as this item is a routine matter of City business.

STRATEGIC PLAN ALIGNMENT
Approval of this action advances the Citywide ONE Pleasanton strategic plan goal of Investing
in Our Environment, Strategy 8 – Update the Sewer System Master Plan to reflect current and
future operations and identify system improvements and necessary maintenance.

FISCAL IMPACT
The contracted services are funded in the Repair and Replacement Fund associated with the
Sewer Fund (43442201-440105), which is budgeted at $380,000 for FY 2025/26 and $500,000
for FY 2026/27.

Prepared by: Submitted by: Approved by:

Siew-Chin Yeong, Director
of Public Works
Siew-Chin Yeong, Director of Public
Works

Gerry Beaudin, City
Manager

Attachments:
1.
