Sequoia Ecological Consulting, Inc.
Scope of Work and Cost Estimate
Special-Status Plant Surveys | City of Pleasanton Augustin Bernal Community Park Fuels Project
April 2025

Page
2 of 3

SCOPE OF WORK
Task 3: Special-Status Plant Surveys
Sequoia will perform special-status plant surveys, consisting of target list development, protocol-level
surveys, and a technical report.
3.1 Desktop Review
Prior to conducting the special-status plant surveys, Sequoia will perform a background search and
literature review of all existing data pertaining to botanical resources using Calflora, California Native
Plant Society (CNPS), iNaturalist and California Natural Diversity Database (CNDDB) to inform the
potential to occur of special-status plants. Sequoia will then update the list of special-status plant
species and sensitive natural communities and refine species to target within the Project study area.
3.2 Rare Plant Surveys
Sequoia will conduct protocol-level special-status plant surveys on the Project site during blooming
periods with specific timing based on the Final Target List, seasonal weather patterns, and results of
reference population visits, to capture the blooming periods for target special-status plant and sensitive
natural communities. Based on a desktop review for the Project, 53 special-status plant species were
identified as having potential to occur; accordingly, Sequoia’s surveys will coincide with the blooming
period for these, generally timing for surveys in April, May, and July. The surveys will include an
inventory of plant species and vegetative communities, identify and record locations of any rare plants
and sensitive natural communities that may occur in the area and record observations on topography,
geology or other factors that may influence site work.
Assumptions:
Scope does not include the costs for the rare plant survey report.
- Assumes the rare plant survey report subtask will be included under a subsequent
contract amendment.
Sequoia assumes the extent of the survey area and will survey the entire boundary of the PSA
project area.
Two (2) Sequoia botanists will conduct three (3) special-status plant surveys in April, May, and
July of 2025. Final survey dates may vary depending on the final target species list, weather and
access conditions, etc.
- Task also includes costs associated with reference site visits for target rare plant species
consisting of one (1) seven (7)-hour day.
This scope does not include time to prepare and submit California Department of Fish and
Wildlife California Natural Diversity Database forms for special-status species observations.
