BUILDING INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION
Delivered Via Email
DATE: June 17, 2025
TO: Pleasanton Mayor Jack Balch, Vice Mayor Jeff Nibert and
Councilmembers Craig Eicher, Matt Gaidos and Julie Testa
FROM: Lisa Vorderbrueggen, East Bay Governmental Affairs Executive
Director Lisa Vorderbrueggen
RE: Consent Calendar Item No. 9, Ordinance Establishing a Public Art
Contribution Requirement for Development
Dear Mayor Balch, Vice Mayor Nibert and Councilmembers:
BIA I Bay Area is a membership organization comprised of more than 400 companies engaged in developing,
entitling, designing and constructing new homes throughout the San Francisco region including Pleasanton.
I have been made aware of an item on the consent calendar for today's City Council meeting that would, if
enacted, add thousands of dollars to the cost of building much-needed new homes: a mandated public art fee.
While I understand from the staff report that the city brought this issue before the Civil Arts Commission, it
has not been presented to the homebuilding community. I respectfully request that the council delay the public
hearing until staff can meet with the development community and fully assess the impact the fee will have on
housing production in Pleasanton.
Sincerely yours,
51
Lisa A.
