Don Lewis Music
P.O. Box 1588
Pleasanton, CA 94566
July 14, 2025
To The Honorable Mayor Balch and The Honorable Members of The City Council of Pleasanton,
Thank you for your consideration and support of the public art project "Don Lewis Harmonic
Symphony." Not only does the theme honor and represent the life and values of Don Lewis, but is a
testament to Pleasanton, and the emergence of arts in our town over the last 40 plus years that we
have lived here.
Don Lewis, throughout the years, performed his "Say YES to Music!" Assemblies nationally and also in
every school in Pleasanton encouraging students to be imaginative, to find their passions, and to use
music as a positive force in their lives. The resonance of multi-purpose rooms and gymnasiums
throughout our city filled with the sound of students and their teachers singing together with Don was
always powerful, uplifting, and a moment of unity.
Likewise, the "Don Lewis Harmonic Symphony" will provide a unique opportunity for residents and
visitors to Pleasanton inclusively to create vibrations and harmony together in a world where words
can often tear us apart. Quite simply, music builds bridges.
A heartfelt thank you goes to Gary and Nancy Harrington for the conception of this project, to Heidi
Murphy, and to the Civic Arts and Parks and Recreation Commissions for honing and unanimously
voting to recommend this project to the Council. The Lewis Family is most appreciate of your support
and consideration on this vote5
Sincerely,
Julie Lewis
"...the universality of music spoke to all of Amador's students that day and they listened in a way that I have not previously
witnessed. When Mr. Lewis poised his arms over his keyboard to begin, one might have heard a pin drop. There seemed
momentarily to be no lines drawn between groups ... these young people were absorbed in the unifying miracle of music."
Linda Ellis, High School Counselor,
Pleasanton, CA
"If I had to express my feeling during or after the concert, it would be difficult. I can distinctly remember how all thoughts in
my mind were settled or put at ease as the music became the only concern in my mind. You don't need drugs to get high,
get your high off of music." Mike Peterson, High school Student
