The information it contains
reach out to Stewardship@ebparks.org or browse
the resources at ebparks.sharepoint.com/sites/
StewResources!
• Know your park! Check ParkView-Vegetation layer-Special
Status Species or contact Stewardship@ebparks.org for
a map of rare plants in the area you plan to work.
• Prior to general mowing or grading, walk the site; this
mowing or grading area. This also provides an opportunity
to look for rocks, sprinkler heads, and debris.
• During work activities, all trash that may attract wildlife
should be properly contained, removed from the work site,
and disposed of regularly. Following completion of work,
remove all trash
and construction
debris from work
areas.
• Do not allow
rinse or wash
water (concrete
rinse, paint wash,
car wash, etc.)
to be directed
or dumped into
any drain inlet or
surface water; properly dispose of all rinse and/or wash
water.
• DO NOT PUMP water from lagoons, lakes, ponds or
other water bodies without proper authorization and
discharge plan.
• Following soil excavation, match the pre-existing contours
to ensure that drainage patterns remain the same.
Minimize compaction of topsoil to the extent possible.
• Debris from lop and scatter slash treatments should be left
at a height no greater than 18 inches. Avoid chipping into
grasslands. Woody material should be in contact with soil
for faster breakdown.
• Avoid placing or spreading soil, sand or sediment on top of
existing burrows or grasslands. Place debris in developed
areas.
• Cover all excavated holes or trenches deeper than
12 inches at the end of each workday to prevent animals
becoming entrapped. Alternatively, exit ramps may be
placed in holes, trenches, or troughs to allow animals
to escape.
• Limit construction activities to daylight hours.
If you are planning a project in shorelines, wetlands, ponds,
lakes, streams, riparian areas or in undeveloped land that
includes grading, trail construction or realignment, or new
infrastructure, consult Stewardship to ensure regulatory
compliance and possible seasonal work restrictions are
followed.
