The program focuses on reading for fun and enjoying special programs
and events throughout the summer months. This report provides a review of community input
from the 2024 Summer Reading Program as well as a preview of the theme and activities for
Summer 2025.

RECOMMENDATION
Receive information on the 2025 Summer Reading Program at the Pleasanton Public Library.

BACKGROUND
The Summer Reading Program has been a fun and engaging tradition in Pleasanton for more
than 30 years. Each year, a unique theme shapes library programming and decorations,
helping to keep the experience fresh and exciting for returning participants. Past themes have
explored topics such as the arts (“Reading Colors Your World”), Pleasanton’s
quasquicentennial celebration (“Reading Through the Years”), outdoor exploration (“Read
Beyond the Beaten Path”), and personal expression (“Find Your Voice”).

In 2024, the theme “Read, Renew, Repeat” was centered around environmental awareness
and sustainability. A total of 3,712 individuals participated in the program, including:
• 164 babies
• 2,471 children
• 1,077 teens and adults
The program achieved several milestones, such as a 187% increase in participation from the
2023 program and the introduction of a successful High School Reading Advocates volunteer
program.

Participants were invited to complete an online Summer Reading Survey at the end of the
program, with responses indicated in the chart below:
