CITY COUNCIL REGULAR AGENDA PACKET

RESOLUTION NO._____ A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON ADOPTING THE PLEASANTON COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT POLICY WHEREAS, the Library’s Collection Development Policy (2023) requires revision to comply with the State of California’s Freedom to Read Act (Assembly Bill 1825, 2023); and WHEREAS, the updated Collection Development Policy affirms the public library’s role as a center for voluntary inquiry and the dissemination of information and ideas, and acknowledges that materials should present diverse points of view for the interest, information, and enlightenment of all people; and WHEREAS, the updated policy reflects the Library’s obligation to resist censorship and discrimination in the selection, removal, and accessibility of library materials, as required by state law; and WHEREAS, the policy aligns with state law provisions protecting library staff from retaliation for performing their professional duties in upholding the principles of intellectual freedom and access to information; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON DOES RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER THE FOLLOWING: SECTION 1. Adopts the following policy as shown in the exhibit attached to this resolution: Collection Development Policy. SECTION 2. City Clerk shall certify the passage of this resolution and enter it into the book of original resolutions. PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Pleasanton at a regular meeting held on October 7, 2025.
