Arborist Report. 4400 Black Ave. Pleasanton. Page 2
The True Life Companies May 2023

HortScience | Bartlett Consulting, Divisions of The F. A. Bartlett Tree Expert Company

Description of Trees
Sixty-three (63) trees were assessed representing twelve species (Table 1). Overall, 5 trees
were in good condition, 30 were in fair condition, and 28 were in poor condition. In general
species were ornamental, non-native, and commonly observed in the region. Valley oak is native
to the area but trees of this species did not appear to be indigenous to the site. Twenty-two (22)
trees were located off-site. Descriptions of each tree can be found in the Tree Assessment Form
and approximate locations are shown on the Tree Inventory Map (see Attachments).

Table 1: Tree condition and frequency of occurrence.
4400 Black Ave. Pleasanton, CA.

Common Name Scientific Name Condition Total
Poor
(1-2)
Fair
(3)
Good
(4-5)

Hackberry Celtis occidentalis - 1 - 1
Evergreen ash Fraxinus uhdei - 1 - 1
Glossy privet Ligustrum lucidum 13 5 1 19
Sweetgum Liquidambar styraciflua 5 8 - 13
Southern magnolia Magnolia grandiflora 1 1 - 2
London plane Platanus x hispanica - 2 - 2
Plum Prunus domestica 3 1 - 4
Callery pear Pyrus calleryana - 7 - 7
Evergreen pear Pyrus kawakamii 6 2 - 8
Valley oak Quercus lobata - - 3 3
Coast redwood Sequoia sempervirens - 1 1 2
Sawleaf zelkova Zelkova serrata - 1 - 1

Total 28 30 5 63

Glossy privet was the most common
species with 19 trees, of which 13
were off-site. The privets served as
screening along property fence line
(Photo 1). Condition was either poor
(13 trees) or fair (5 trees). Off-site
tree #44 was in good condition. The
privets were young to semi-mature
in development with an average
trunk diameter of 12 inches. Most
(14 trees) privets had multiple stems
that arose at or near the base.
Trees in fair and poor condition had
moderate twig and branch dieback
and poor structure.

Photo 1. Glossy privets #43
(foreground) to #52 (background)
provided screening along the
property fence.
