BLACK AVENUE RESIDENTIAL
DEVELOPMENT
648-26-1
Page 3
The faults considered capable of generating significant earthquakes are generally associated
with the well-defined areas of crustal movement, which trend northwesterly. The table below
presents the State-considered active faults within 25 kilometers of the site.
Table 1: Approximate Fault Distances
Fault Name
Distance
(miles) (kilometers)
Calaveras 2.2 3.5
Hayward (Total Length)8.3 13.4
Greenville 9.9 16.0
Hayward (Southeast Extension) 14.1 22.7
A regional fault map is presented as Figure 3, illustrating the relative distances of the site to
significant fault zones.
SECTION 3: SITE CONDITIONS
3.1 SITE BACKGROUND
We reviewed historical aerial imagery provided online by Historical Aerials
(http://www.historicaerials.com). From 1949 to 1968, the site was a vacant plot of land that
appears to be used for agriculture. Between 1968 to 1979, the site was developed with the
current building surrounded by parking and has remained relatively unchanged.
3.2 SURFACE DESCRIPTION
The approximately 2½-acre site is located at 4400 Black Avenue and is currently designated as
APN 946-3380-6. The site is bounded by Black Avenue to the north, Amador Valley High
School to the south, The Quarry Lane School-West Campus to the west, and various
commercial buildings and parking lots to the east. Based on Google Earth, the site is relatively
flat with site grades ranging from approximately Elevation 344 feet from the northwest corner of
the site to Elevation 346 feet along the southern portion of the site (datum unknown).
Based on visual observations, the existing pavements are in fair condition within the parking lot
area and in fair to poor condition with block and alligator cracking observed within drive aisles.
3.3 SUBSURFACE CONDITIONS
Below the existing surface, our hand augers encountered undocumented fills of silty sands with
gravel and sandy fat clay to a depth of 2 to 2½ feet underlain by native lean clays to the
maximum depth explored of 4 feet. Based on interpretation of the Cone Penetration Test (CPT)
soundings, CPT-1 and CPT-2 encountered clays to a depth of 22 to 23 feet underlain by
gravelly sand and sands to the practical refusal depth of between 39½ to 44 feet.
