Pleasanton BART
Existing Physical Site Conditions Opportunities and Constraints Evaluation Oct 16, 2025

9
c. Planned Infrastructure Improvements

i. Iron Horse Trail improvements

Improvements are planned to the section of the Iron Horse Trail (IHT) - a 32-mile regional multi-
use transportation and recreational corridor - running through the project site. BART’s Iron Horse
Trail Project aims to improve bicycle and pedestrian access to the Dublin/ Pleasanton Station,
for the purpose of implementing its latest Station Access Policy (adopted 2016). The
improvements will tie into IHT improvements being made in the adjacent city of Dublin. This will
help to close the gap (from Dublin to Pleasanton) in the IHT, allowing BART riders to reach the
station more easily using active transportation. The improvements will also improve safety and
comfort for pedestrians and cyclists traveling to and through the station area.

In addition to BART riders who walk and bike to the station as part of their commute, the Dublin/
Pleasanton station itself is a recreational destination for users of the IHT. The improvements are
intended to help visitors locate and access the trail easily. The trail also connects BART riders
with the broader network of pathways, trails, and green spaces in the area.

The scope of this work that impacts the project site includes the following:
• The diagonal multi-use pathway running through the site will be upgraded to a designated
two-way bicycle track, separated from vehicle traffic and from the pedestrian sidewalk.
• Reconfiguration of the bus area adjacent to the station entrance.
• Two out of four kiosks in the existing central plaza will be removed.
• New landscaping and storm water management features- including new trees along the trail.
Figure 3-2: Exhibit showing the IHT improvements on the project site
DRA
F
T
