Access and Circulation by Travel Mode
This section describes access and circulation by travel mode at the Dublin/Pleasanton BART
Station, with the focus on the Pleasanton side of the station.
Walking and Pedestrian Environment
According to the 2015 station access mode share data, walking is the second most common
mode of access to the station for home-based trips and the most common mode of access for
non-home-based trips. Both the Dublin and Pleasanton sides of the station provide pedestrian
access to the station entrance via the Iron Horse Trail. Figure 5 shows the major pedestrian
paths on the Pleasanton side of the station.
Sidewalks with minimum 8 feet width are present, and in several locations these walkways overlap
with the Iron Horse Trail, increasing the potential for conflicts between pedestrians and cyclists.
For example, signage south of the station advises cyclists to dismount and walk their bikes until
reaching Owens Drive.
Another challenge for pedestrians is the eastern crosswalk at the Owens Drive/Willow Road
intersection, which does not provide a direct pedestrian path into the station. Pedestrians must
either walk through the surface parking lot, or take longer, indirect routes either along Owens
Drive and use the Iron Horse Trail or walk along the west and north sides of the station adjacent
to the Hewlett Canal to reach the station entrance.
DRA
F
T
