Dublin/Pleasanton BART Existing Conditions – Access and Circulation
June 6, 2025

Bicycle and Micromobility
Biking and micromobility account for a relatively small share of trips at the Dublin/Pleasanton
BART Station, similar to the rest of The BART system.
All bicyclists observed in the station area during the site visit were on the Iron Horse Trail. Most
were travelling south on the Iron Horse Trail, riding on the raised area of the parking lot and
sidewalk—spaces shared with pedestrians—to reach the Iron Horse Trail crossing on Owens
Drive. The Iron Horse Trail through the station reaches Owens Drive about 120 feet west of the
signalized trail crossing. The offset results in southbound bicycles generally riding on the sidewalk
to reach the signalized crossing, resulting in potential conflict with pedestrians. (see page 21
regarding the planned improvements to the Iron Horse Trail at the station).
Peak hour counts conducted by the City of Pleasanton in May 2024 at the Owens Drive/Iron
Horse Trail intersection recorded 9 bicyclists and 13 pedestrians during the AM peak hour, and
13 bicyclists and 32 pedestrians during the PM peak hour crossing Owens Drive.
Owens Drive along the station frontage provides Class II bike lanes in both directions. Eastbound
Owens Drive provides a buffered bike lane along a 650-foot segment east of Willow Road. Along
the station frontage, for motor vehicles, Owens Drive provides o ne eastbound through-lane and
two westbound through-lanes, which seem adequate for handling observed traffic volumes (258
eastbound and 357 westbound during the AM peak; 603 eastbound and 451 westbound during
the PM peak based on May 2024 data). Considering the observed vehicle volumes, westbound
Owens Drive may offer opportunities for reallocation of automobile lanes to enhance pedestrian
and bicycle infrastructure.
The station accommodates bicycle parking for 173 bicycles at the following locations:
• Near the station entrance: 56 BikeLink lockers and 24 BART bike lockers
• Opposite the station entrance: 35 bike racks and 28 BikeLink lockers
• Adjacent to the Dublin Transit Center garage: 30 bike lockers
According to BART data from October 2023 to September 2024, the 24 BART bike lockers
averaged about 10 rentals per day. BikeLink data for the same period shows that the station’s 84
lockers were used by approximately 192 unique individuals, with each user averaging 15 rentals
annually. Weekday use averaged around 10 unique users per day, while weekend use was minimal
(fewer than one unique user per day). October 2024 data shows that 12 of these 84 lockers were
out of service or low battery during a standard BikeLink site visit; the overall bike parking supply
exceeded observed demand. No bike racks were in use at the time of the site visit. Figure 6
shows the location of the bike lockers and bike infrastructure around the Pleasanton side of the
station.
DRA
F
T
