Local Revenue Measure Results November 2024 – 2 – December 6, 2024 Final

CaliforniaCityFinance.com
Overall Passage Rates
With final tallies completed, 410 of the 539 tax and bond measures passed. The overall
(preliminary) 76% passage rate is within the range of the last few election cycles. With about 10 million
ballots counted on election night, 388 measures were passing. But as an additional 6 million ballots
were tabulated, some results shifted.

This is the largest number of local tax and bond measures passed at one election in California
history. It was also the largest number proposed. This high number reflects a rebound from voter’s
fiscal anxiety coming through the Covid-19 pandemic. It does not necessarily indicate a trend. At this
same election, Californians approved Proposition 2, a $10 billion education school bond that will
provide matching funds for many local school projects. In March 2020, as the pandemic emerged,
voters defeated a $15 billion state bond proposal and most local school construction bonds. In the
lingering anxiety from the pandemic, local agencies have been reluctant to go to voters with tax and
bond measures since.
Total Pass Passing%
City General Tax (Majority Vote) 141 121 86%
County General Tax (Majority Vote) 9 7 78%
City Initiative Special Tax -MajorityVote* 11 4 36%
County Init.
