Steve Otto

From: KBSauter@cs.com
Sent: Tuesday, September 09, 2003 4:22 PM
To: Steve Otto

Subject: PCUP-92, Marl Kennard

Dear Mr. Otto,

I realize that the time has passed for this letter possibly being included in the Staff Report for the project at 780 Main Street, but
we would like to express our concern regarding the selling of alcohol past 10 pm. As residents of downtown (St. Mary Street),
we often have cars parked in front of our home from the customers of nearby restaurants. Since the proposed "Crown British
Pub and Restaurant'' has a small number of parking spaces available, we see that the need for street parking would increase -
based specifically on the popularity of this restaurant. The impact is signifi _c~._p_t for our ability to park in front of our own home.

Secondly, as we have previously addressed this issue with the City regarding late liquor sales, we have two primary concerns:
1. Is this the image that we wish for Pleasanton - late night drinking, even on weeknights?
2. Does it provide for the continued safety we currently enjoy, even at night, on the streets in Downtown Pleasanton?

As I travel the downtown streets past 10 pm, I rarely see any of the restaurants who have been granted permission to serve
alcohol after 10 pm, open on weeknights! It's a comfort to know that even though they ask for it, few have actually done it.

I think that this speaks to the fact that Pleasanton is mainly a town of people with families, whose priorities are to be at home
with their school-aged children in bed after 10 pm. Since the city continues to grant permission to these restaurants to
encourage people to drink into the early hours of the morning, our only hope is that the good people of Pleasanton will not
support these restaurants with their business after 10 pm.

Thank you for your consideration.

Karl & Brenda Sauter
418 Saint Mary Street
Pleasanton, CA 94566
484-0496

9/9/2003
