Along with adopting the required resolution calling for the
November 3, 2026, election, staff recommend that the City Council request consent from the
County of Alameda Board of Supervisors to consolidate with the Statewide General Election
and for the Registrar of Voters to render specific services to the City related to conducting the
election. State law also requires adoption of a resolution regulating candidate statements.

DISCUSSION
Consistent with past elections and state law, in the event of a tie vote, the City will conduct a
special runoff election.

Additionally, candidates will pay a $25 filing fee and a deposit for the optional candidate
statement. The estimated cost associated with printing and translating a candidate statement
of 200 words is $750 for Councilmember district seats and $2,200 for Mayor as based on the
2024 general municipal election, with final costs to be provided by the County.

The nomination period for all offices opens July 13, 2026, and closes August 7, 2026, at 5 p.m.
unless extended pursuant to Elections Code section 10225.

EQUITY AND SUSTAINABILITY
Not applicable, as this item is a routine matter of City business.
