NATIONAL INSURANCE CRIME BUREAU
PRIVACY AND SECURITY POLICY
INTRODUCTION AND POLICY STATEMENT
PART 1
I.Introduction
Through intelligence-driven operations, the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) leads a
united effort to combat and prevent insurance-related crime and fraud (NICB’s “Mission”).
To help achieve NICB Mission and combat criminal insurance fraud activity, NICB maintains
access to a number of data pools from a variety of trusted sources, including our Member
companies, non-Member subscribers, select government agencies including law enforcement
partners, and other strategic partners (collectively, along with NICB-authorized personnel, the
“Participants,” defined more fully below). NICB receives and analyzes various data and, in turn,
produces information products that are disseminated to our Participants to help detect and prevent
fraud from occurring. Depending on the data source and the Participant, the information that NICB
receives and shares may contain sensitive and potentially legally protected information, including:
personal identity information; confidential information or information concerning criminal
investigations. NICB is committed to abiding by all relevant statutory and regulatory requirements
and upholding the highest ethical standards around applicable data access and usage. As such, it is
vitally important to maintain the privacy and security of NICB Data (as defined below), including
limiting access of NICB Data to only those who use NICB Data consistent with NICB’s Mission
and this Privacy and Security Policy (“Policy”).
NICB provides access to NICB Data to Participants through certain delivery mechanisms,
including the Insurance Services Office, Inc. (ISO) ClaimSearch®, NICB’s download center, the
National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (NLETS), Justice Connect, and
Homeland Security Information Sharing Network (HSIN). NICB Data is a vital asset to our
organization. Participants must ensure NICB Data is Processed (as defined herein) only for
legitimate purposes and in compliance with this Policy.
II.Definitions
“Data Privacy Law” means all applicable consumer data privacy laws that may apply to a
Participant’s Processing of NICB Data. It shall include, but is not limited to, current and future
United States state or federal privacy laws.
“Insurance Services Office, Inc.” (“ISO”), means a Delaware Corporation with offices located at
545 Washington Boulevard, Jersey City, New Jersey 07310, including itself, its subsidiaries and
affiliates (collectively referenced herein as “Verisk”).
“NICB Data” means any and all data and information collected and shared by NICB, including
personal identity information; confidential information; or information concerning criminal
investigations.
Effective 09.25.2024Docusign Envelope ID: 329281D2-142C-8B83-837A-7CD218C257C4
