The illumination of only the lettering and a small band along the bottom of the canopy
originally the plans called for illumination of not only the logo and lettering, but also the
entire orange background on the canopy);
A condition of approval that all illuminated canopy lighting be turned off daily between
the hours of 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., similar to the 76/Circle K gas station and
convenience market across the street; and
Maintaining (i.e., not enlarging) the existing size of the monument pricing sign.
Thus, as proposed and conditioned, the Zoning Administrator found the proposed SDR would
meet the dimensions and other standards of the Sign Ordinance, is in keeping with other
similar gas station signage design concepts throughout the city, and would be compatible with,
and would not detrimentally affect, the existing adjacent/nearby uses or residences. Conditions
of approval have been included which will ensure that the safety and general welfare of the
surrounding area, and the city in general, is maintained.
ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT
This project is categorically exempt (Section 15301, Class 1, Existing Facilities) from the
requirements of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA); therefore, no environmental
document accompanies this report.
Pursuant to PMC Section 18.144.010 City Council Review, on March 4, 2025, a Council
member requested review of the action of the Zoning Administrator. Accordingly, the
application is presented to the City Council for its review.
EQUITY AND SUSTAINABILITY
No impact, since this is a routine matter of City business.
OUTREACH
Notice of this meeting was sent to property owners and tenants/occupants within 1,000 feet of
the site as shown in Attachment 3. At the time of this report’s publication, no public comments
have been received.
STRATEGIC PLAN ALIGNMENT
Approval of this action advances the ONE Pleasanton Strategic Plan goal of Building a
Community Where Everyone Belongs, Strategy 4, which aims to Implement the updated 2024-
2028 Economic Development Strategic Plan initiatives, including retail revitalization, ensuring
the vibrancy of Pleasanton’s downtown, business retention and expansion, and workforce
development. This project would provide new signage as part of the rebranding (and future
façade remodel) of a former Shell gas station to a Gulf gas station, supporting the noted
objectives.
FISCAL IMPACT
The proposed project would be responsible for the payment of fees as set forth in the
Conditions of Approval. No fiscal impacts to the City or public services are anticipated.
Page 196 of 223Page 178 of 249
