1

MEMORANDUM
July 21, 2026

To: Mike Tassano and Matt Nelson
Organization: City of Pleasanton
From: Lauren Pepe and Adam Wood
Project: City of Pleasanton Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan

RE: Existing Conditions Summary, Needs Assessment, and Recommendations

Existing Bicycle and Pedestrian Facilities
Bicycle Facilities
Pleasanton has a connected bikeway network that is particularly dense in the north-central part of the city, near
the Dublin-Pleasanton BART Station. In total, there are approximately 64 miles of bikeways, including:
▪ 13 miles of Class I shared-use paths
▪ 32 miles Class II bicycle lanes
▪ 9 miles of Class II buffered bicycle lanes
▪ 7 miles of Class III bike routes
▪ 3 miles of Class IV separated bicycle lanes
Pleasanton’s network of Class I and unpaved shared-use paths provides comfortable, off-street routes for
bicyclists and pedestrians. This paved and unpaved trail network provides low-stress connectivity across major
streets that would otherwise be barriers. Some examples include:
▪ The underpass along the Arroyo del Valle Trail provides connectivity beneath Valley Ave.
▪ The underpasses along the Centennial Trail at W Las Positas Boulevard and Stoneridge Drive provide
grade-separated crossings.
▪ The trail underpasses beneath Hopyard Road, Stoneridge Drive (in two locations), and Santa Rita Road
provide grade-separated crossings for those using the Arroyo Mocho Trail.
▪ The underpass along the Marilyn Murphy Kane Loop provides connectivity beneath I-680.
Figure 1 depicts the existing network of bicycle facilities in Pleasanton.

Since the 2018 Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan (BPMP), approximately 13 miles of bikeways have been
installed (Figure 2), including:
▪ 0.2 miles of Class I shared-use paths
▪ 1 mile of Class II bicycle lanes
▪ 9 miles of Class II buffered bicycle lanes
▪ 3 miles of Class IV separated bicycle lanes

Prior to the 2018 BPMP, the city had no Class IV separated bicycle lanes nor Class II buffered bicycle lanes.

360 22ND S T R E E T 510.298.0740
S U I T E 5 0 1 T O O L E D E S I G N .
