3

Introduction
This Toolkit includes bicycle and pedestrian facility treatments relevant to Pleasanton,
providing an overview, engineering guidance, and additional contextual considerations for
each treatment. The purpose of this Toolkit is to provide best practice guidance and other
considerations to engineers, planners, and community members so that the
recommendations in the Pleasanton Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan (“Plan”) may be
implemented based on roadway context; it is not comprehensive nor intended to take the
place of design standards prepared by Caltrans or any other entity. Recognizing that there
is no “one size fits all” approach, the pedestrian crossing treatment section includes a
matrix aligned with Plan recommendations to help determine which treatments are
appropriate given the roadway context.
