34 | 2026 PLEASANTON BICYCLE AND PEDESTRIAN MASTER PLAN
EXISTING CONDITIONS AND NETWORK EVALUATION
Pedestrian Facilities
Sidewalk coverage is generally complete
throughout developed areas of Pleasanton.
Remaining gaps are limited and primarily occur
adjacent to undeveloped land or freeway crossings.
However, crossing major arterial streets remains
one of the most significant barriers to comfortable
pedestrian travel.
SIDEWALKS
Most streets in Pleasanton with posted speed limits
above 25 mph have sidewalks on both sides of
the street. Locations without sidewalks where the
posted speed limit is above 25 mph are shown in
Figure 4.
CROSSINGS
Safe and comfortable crossings are an important
part of a complete active transportation network.
Even if all blocks within a network offer comfortable
facilities for people walking and biking, unsafe
crossings are barriers to connected trips and act as
conflict points that interrupt otherwise low stress
routes.
Crossing treatments in Pleasanton at many
intersections are robust, particularly since many
major crossings involve crossing multilane arterials.
Furthermore, the City has made improvements
at 27 crossing locations citywide, including 22
locations which were safe routes to school projects.
Despite this, crossing Pleasanton’s multilane
arterials remains a challenge in many locations.
Examples of Recent Crossing Improvements
Willow Road and W.
