Jim Wolfe

From: Paul De Joy [dejoyfam@comcast.net]
Sent: Friday, April 08, 2005 10:35 PM
To: Richard Hengehold; Jim Wolfe
Subject: Bernal Property fields

Dear Mr. Wolfe, because I will be unable to attend next Mondays Council
meeting to address the Bernal Property direction, I would like to take this
opportunity to contribute my idea on the matter. I have been a member of
the Pony league for several years now and will be involved in it for another
7 years for sure. My youngest child is 7 and will be starting baseball next
year on the Pony league. My 11 year old is currently in the Bronco division
of the Pony league. We have only 2 fields to play on at this time and only
one is lighted. We share these fields with girls softball and to find any
parking on any given day is a miracle. The possibility of having mere
fields to play on that are lighted would be great. Pony baseball really
needs these additional fields. Pony baseball teaches our kids how to play
baseball with the same regulations as the "big boys". By the time they get
into high school and college they will have an edge up on the other leagues.
I don't want to talk down about the other leagues that are in our city, but
the difference is like kindergarten is to high school with Pony being high
school. At this time Pony has 2 little fields with fiberglass pitching
mounds .... fiberglass? Can you believe this?
I've been a resident of Pleasanton since 1988 and I love this
community. I believe that the community needs more lighted baseball fields
and this is our opportunity. The travel teams in Pony will use these fields
as well and when teams from other cities come to play on these fields where
will they spend their money?
On behalf of myself, my wife and 3 children, please consider this
request for more lighted baseball fields on the Bernal property.
Sincerely,
Paul M.
