Jim Wolfe

From: Fred Papendick [fredknot@comcast.net]
Sent: Monday, April 11, 2005 1:11 PM
To: Jim Wolfe

Subject: Lighted Fields

When I moved from Oakland to Pleasanton 15 years ago, I fell in love with the Sports Park. I
played softball under the lights for a few years and after I retired, I got back into coaching. I
was shocked to realize, even with an almost mile long Sports Park, the city lacked baseball
fields. With Pony Baseball, we played under the lights at Upper Bernal. The players,
parents and I loved it. The lighted fields extended the playing day and gave parents a chance
to see their kids play. As I am sure you know, many have to commute back and forth to work.
As a coach, it is almost impossible to get a field to practice on. The city closes the fields in late
winter and by the time they are opened again, league play is about to start. Lighted baseball
fields would surely be an asset to the city.

Fred Papendick
3129 Camdon Court
Pleasanton, CA 94588
925/484-5859

4/11/2005
