The City of Pleasant on
Planning and Community Department
200 Old Bernal Avenue
Pleasanton, CA 94566

May 16,2005

In Re: Valencia Community - Report in support of denying large family daycare
at address 5276 Genovesio Drive

To whom it may concern:

As concerned residents, this report was compiled with the aid and support of our fellow
neighbors. The purpose of this report is to convey our 0 bj ections to the granting of the
permit/license for the large family daycare. While we understand that a daycare facility
provides a useful service, it is far more important that this daycare does not negatively
impact a quiet residential neighborhood, where people first and foremost, live.

It is with great concern that we, and our neighbors have over this proposed 7-14 child
limit day care. We do not want this daycare in our neighborhood as it poses avariety of
issues that would affect the surrounding neighbors. The following report details each of
these issues. We believe that the designated space for this daycare is not appropriate for
this size daycare and the use of the surrounding space cannot accommodate the business
(parking, traffic).

Further, there are currently 22 daycares within a 2-mile radius of the applicant site.
These daycares have rnany vacancies and the approval of this daycare will hurt the
existing businesses. Further, these vacancies demonstrate that there is no "need" for
more daycares in the area.

As the neighbors of 5276 Genovesio Drive, we plead that you will find the reasons
compelling. We do not.make this request selfishly, but as a neighborhood. Each of us
chose Valencia as a place to live because of its quiet streets and peaceful environment. It
is no mistake that on the after hours and on weekends, the entire neighborhood enjoys a
peaceful setting because of its location. Just because Valencia is situated in a business
park, doesn't mean that the residents need to have large businesses in a residential area.

Attached at the end of the report is a petition that has been signed by~ residents of
Valencia who support the viewpoints of this report.

It is the hopes ofthe neighborhood that the City of Pleasanton will review this report with
sincerity and objectivity. As residents of Valencia, we respectfully request that the
approval for a daycare at 5276 Genovesio Drive be denied.

Sincerely, ,

~~-'JJ{di~ ~
~~'r ~radley Militano

REClEiVED

MAY 1 7 2005

CITY OF PLEASANTON
PLANNING DEPT.
