We have 4 year-old twin boys and need more living space. <br />Recently, our next door neighbors, Lesley and Finlay Boag (the "Boags"), proposed a home <br />addition for their property at 4558 Second Street. The Boags' public hearing before the City <br />Council is scheduled for September 19, 2006 and our public hearing before the Planning <br />Commission is on September 27,2006. <br /> <br />Our home follows the City's design guidelines for this neighborhood, is consistent with the <br />architecture of our existing home, and we believe our proposal will receive a Planning Staff <br />Recommendation for approval. <br /> <br />Several months ago, some of our neighbors, led by Finlay Boag, presented a petition opposing <br />our proposed home as being too massive. In response to that petition, and numerous neighbor <br />meetings, we redesigned our plans: We reduced the square footage, lowered the height of the <br />garage from 29 feet to 21 feet, and changed the roof of our proposed second story addition to a <br />dormer roof, lowering the height of the home addition by 4 feet. We repeatedly modified our <br />plans in an attempt to gain support from the Boags and the neighbors, but we have not yet <br />received their support. <br /> <br />Our modified home plans are no more massive than the Boags' home plan (see attached scale <br />drawing of both homes). In both homes, the two story element is set way back from Second <br />Street. Our only point is that we want both home plans treated fairly, objectively, and equally. If <br />the Boags' home plan is approved on September 19, 2006, we ask that you resist any new efforts <br />to garner opposition to our home plan on September 27,2006.
