Box 520
Pleasanton, CA 94566

Mr. Jeff Knowles, Traffic Engineer
Traffic Engineering Department
City of Pleasanton
200 Old Bernal Avenue
Pleasanton, CA 94566

SUBJECT: Red Curbs

Dear Mayor Hosterman and Mr. Knowles:

The Board of Directors of the Pleasanton Village Association has asked me to write to you to share and discuss
current parking problems within our community as well as increased problems that are anticipated when the
new gymnasium at neighboring St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church is built.

Pleasanton Village is a homeowners association of 196 units located near Rheem and Stoneridge. The streets
involved are Rheem, Bowen, Alexander Way, Krause, Armstrong and Oakland. The primary problems are on
Bowen, Alexander Way and Rheem, however. St. Elizabeth Seton is one of our immediate neighbors. Over
33% of our homes were built with one car garages. As you can imagine, while this may have been adequate
when the homes were built in 1983, it is not adequate for the average family today. We have many
homeowners with more than 2 vehicles who have no other option than to park on the street. This causes a lot of
congestion and also line of sight issues within the community.

To add to our parking problems, St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church is planning to build a large gymnasium on
the area of its property that is right next to us. The gym is to be used for CY A athletics, with parents bringing
their children to the gym every evening. The driveway is almost at the intersection of Bowen and Rheem, the
primary entrance to our community. Traffic in our community is very congested when the church has services
and we are concerned with the additional daily traffic the gym will bring.

We are writing to you to help us develop some ways to alleviate the parking problem. A suggestion has been
made to have parking permits for our residents and to have all "non-permit" parking towed. This would work
for a community with private streets, but our streets are all public, with the sole exception of Alexander Court.
Would the City allow such a system on our public streets, especially Alexander, Bowen and Rheem?
