Page -3
P-6x03
CONCLUSIONS
Based on our review to date, rt is our opinion that the geotechnical investigation performed by KE for this
parcel does not conform to accepted geotechnical standards of practice and the Vineyard Avenue Condor
Specific Plan. A number of issues exist which we believe will require the submittal of supplemental
documentation. These items are discussed mdwidually below.
1. Soil Expansion Potential The existing recommendations for footing foundations and slabs-on-
grade may not result in adequate performance if more highly expansive materials are present than
indicated by the KE laboratory tests. Either the recommendations should be revised ur addrtional
tests performed to verify the results from the adjacent parcels do not extend onto the subject site.
2. Existing Fill "Chickncss - KE should further evaluate the thiclrness of the existing fill materials
present on the site and discuss the potential consequences ~f substantially deeper than expected
materials are encountered during project grading.
3. Published Maps - It is unclear which published maps KE has reviewed because only an
incomplete listing of citations is provided. KE should list all published maps reviewed, and
provide the information they have obtained from the maps. As a minimum, the references listed at
the end of this letter should be reviewed and discussed.
LIMITATIONS
Our services have been performed m accordance with generally accepted geotechnical principles and
practices. This warranty is in lieu of all other warranties, either expressed or implied. Our services have
been provided at the request of the City of Pleasanton. Ot~r role has been to provide technical assistance to
the City as it considers its permit decisions in this application, and we understand our firm is provided the
same protection as the Crty under State law.
We hope this information is adequate for your needs. Please call the undersigned if you have any
questions.
Very truly yours,
Alan Kropp, U.E.
Principal Engineer
AK/sa
2 No. 487
Exp. 12/31/07
C~TFC H~~~'Pe
Copies: Addressee (3) `
Korbmacher Engineering (1)
peer review Itr
