I will not be able to attend the meeting scheduled
for July ;ist, and so I am sending you my comments via email, in the
hopes that they will be taken into account before any decisions are made.
I live almost directly across from the church.~Iy address is on
Ilarvest Circle, but my property bads to Del Valle Parkway. I will be
heavily impacted by the noise of this construction.
I remember when the church added their last building, just a few
years ago. The noise was terrible, especially the bulldozers, which
seemed to go on day after day for week. Not only are the bulldozers
themselves very loud, but the incessant and horribly loud
"beep-beep-beep" whenever they switch into reverse is enough to drive
one crazy. I vvorl: from home, so I'm affected on a daily basis by these sounds.
This looks like a huge project, building multiple large buildings,
expanding the parking lot and redoing the landscaping. 1 can't even
imagine how long it will last, and how much disruption it will cause.
I know that the building of the new parking lot next to the other
church on Del Valle Parkway lasted for many months, and involved a
huge amount of heaw• equipment noise and beeping.
When I moved to this house over ten years ago, I did so partly
because it is a quiet neighborhood, and I never expected it to be
turned into a construction cone. In addition to the church's last
building project, my next-door neighbor completely rebuilt their
house about three years ago. During that time, the noise vvas loud
enough that one of my dogs developed noise phobias that led to
generalized anxiety disorders. She is now on daily medications,
inchiding scrtrtline (Zoloft), alprtzolarn (Xanax) and clonazepam, in
order to control her fears enough for her to live a halfway normal
life. Even tiv-ith this, we were unable to walk anywvhere near the
construction of the parking lot described above.
I am worried that if we have to deal with months more of loud
construction noise, especially heavy equipment, that she is not going
to be able to handle it. At the least, eve may have to give up our
daily walks for a prolonged period of time, and remain shat up in the
house with all doors and vvindovvs closed throughout the time that the
construction is going on. At the worst, her fears will worsen to the
point where they can no longer be controlled by medication, and slte
w~-ill have to be euthanized.
