Also, not
mentioned is that Valley at Santa Rita is already heavily congested and will be more so with the addition of a
Home Depot Stanly F31vd. is also heavily traveled in the a.m. and p.m. as a route to Livermore. Our
beautiful downtown area will also be heavily impacted with cut through traffic on its way to shop at the new
store. How many I ID's do we need in the area'? There are more than enough stores that over the same
products-lets not forget some independent stores like Richert Lumber, and other smaller shops.
I . Pleasanton has been widely praised for the wisdom of keeping high-traffic commercial
___ _ .
development on the periphery of its residential core. Examples: Stoneridge Mall, Walmart shopping
center, existing Home Depot.
2. The Home Depot proposal contradicts our successful and well-imitated philosophy by drawing a
high volume of traffic from the edge of the city right through the middle of our interior
neighborhoods.
Every city within 30 miles of Pleasanton has located Home Depot stores right near freeway
................
access.
The new proposed Home Depot in Pleasanton would:
_ _ ____
a. Add a "big box" in the center of Pleasanton neighborhoods, nearly 3 miles from freeway
.............
access.
b. Turn Stanley, First St., Valley, Santa Rita into asemi-truck corridor with up to 20 semi
trucks a day, barreling down city streets starting from early morning to late nights. This
includes non-Home Depot trucks.
c. c. Draw cross-town traffic through our neighborhoods.
d. This impact will be more dramatic when the existing Home Depot closes due
to competition from the new Lowes going in at Tassajara and Dublin Blvd:
• Pleasanton will lose any promise of increased City revenues they had counted on.
• More cross-town traffic will transfer to the new Home Depot - an additional increase
in traffic -about 1/3rd more (per Home Depot).
NO HOME DEPOT, or any other big store in Pleasanton at that site.
thank you,
Respectfully,
Sandra Ramella
~/10/?007
